Village - Culture
Originally Zermatt was a small mountain village embedded in the valley of an impressive high-mountain area that has rapidly developed into a manifold visited mountain resort not at last thanks to its landmark, the Matterhorn. Many mountain villages show the same development but Zermatt is some kind of outstanding as it is not only attractive for tourism but also offers a high standard in culture and art. In the Center Cultural Vernissage a gallery for international contemporary art is to be found as well as an exceptionally decorated cinema where a great variety of international movies are to be showed. The Gallery Capricorn exhibits paintings of Zermatt and its surroundings. The Alpine Museum reveals the striking alpine history of Zermatt as well as represents the alpine flora and fauna and the geology of the area. In the Museum of the Radio Matterhorn the first 60 years of broadcasting in Switzerland are documented. To learn more about the past and the present of Zermatt join the guided historical walking tour through the village.
