Sports in Zermatt Ski, hiking tour, walk, golf, paraglide... The fascinating high-mountain area of Zermatt with 36 mountains over 4'000 m in height offers various sports activities to the visitor all the year round. All Year round: For Zermatt’s development as a resort mountaineering has been of great importance and thus the area offers a great variety of mountain and ski tours ranging from the easiest 4'000 m high peak in the Alps to the well known Haute Route from Zermatt to Chamonix. The Alpine Center Zermatt offers various tours led by certified mountain guides. Also, there are many marked hiking trails that lead to some cozy mountain restaurants and let you enjoy the nature at its best. Indoor-Sport: - Fitnesstraining at the Fitnessstudio Matterhorn - Swimming in the public swimming-pool of the Hotel Christiana - Squash in the Hotel Alex - Tennis at the Hotels Alex and Alpen Resort - Bowling at the Hotel Bristol Excursions into Zermatt’s mountain area: - Alpine Metro to Sunnegga - Railway to Gornergrat, Cableway to Rote Nase and Stockhorn - Cableways into the area of the Klein Matterhorn Only flying is better: - Helicopter rides around the top of the Matterhorn - Heli-Skiing - Taxiservice by helicopter to the closest big cities - Paragliding flights: passenger flights and flight lessons Wintersport: Skiing: Zermatt has over 150 km of prepared downhill runs that are to be found in three main skiing areas and are easily reached with the various transport facilities. Cross-country skiing: 2 prepared, 7 km long courses are located above Zermatt. Walking/Hiking: 30 km of prepared and maintained paths are open during winter. Ice-rink: is located in the village. The Ski-School Zermatt offers courses in skiing and cross-country skiing. For snowboard lessons the Stoked Snowboard School is at your disposition, it is located in the Julen-Sport where you also can rent the necessary equipment.
